The Board of Trustees of the Selected Educational Trust is proud to announce the recipients of the Selected Educational Trust 2020 Spring Cycle Second-Career Scholarship Program sponsored by Batesville. And the winners are:

  • Regan Moreland attending Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, Decatur, GA
  • Katherine Seiler attending Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Pittsburgh, PA

“We are so pleased to once again offer these much-needed scholarships to deserving students,” said Bea Pedersen, Executive Director of the Selected Educational Trust. “Each recipient will receive $1,500 towards their Mortuary Science tuition and fees,” continued Pedersen, “but we couldn’t make these funds available without the continued generosity of Batesville, our scholarship program sponsor for the last four years.”

When asked what this scholarship meant to her, Katherine Seiler said, “With a humbled heart, I say ‘thank you’ for awarding me the 2020 Spring-Cycle Second-Career Scholarship. My time at PIMS has been full and meaningful. With this financial assistance, I gain confidence in my future endeavors as I move another step closer to becoming a Funeral Director.”

Regan Moreland was equally expressive, “Thank you so much for this amazing news! I am truly honored to have been selected.”

“Many students entering this profession as a second-career are often mature adults with families and careers. But their personal goals include pursuing a career that is more fulfilling and satisfying than what they are currently doing. Scholarship funds are often not available to these second-career students. The Trust created this scholarship program specifically for individuals like Katherine and Regan. They are making a change in their career and, as such, will be change-makers in this profession.”
