Olson Funeral and Cremation Services is celebrating 130 years by donating 130 trees to the Rockford Park District.
Organizers say the donated oak trees will replace ones destroyed by emerald ash borers in several parks and golf courses.
Funeral Director and President of Olson Funeral and Cremation Services Scott Olson says it’s a pleasure to give back to a community that has supported the business for 13 decades.
“We have families tell us that our family has been serving them for generations and they find comfort with the familiar names, faces and level of service,” said Olson.
The funeral home says it is the oldest business in Rockford consecutively owned by the same family. They say five generations have been involved with the business starting in 1888 with Nels Olson.
The business now has four locations around the stateline but opened 130 years ago on Seventh Street in Rockford.
