New owners, same name.
Gass Haney Funeral Home of Columbus recently purchased Humphrey’s Duesman Funeral Chapel and continues to operate it under the Duesman family name.
New owners Brad Ramaekers and Gary Sharman have a long history of working with Paul and Joan Duesman, so the change of hands was a natural fit.
“We’ve been helping Paul for more than 20 years, so it’s just a nice progression,” Ramaekers said. “We’ve helped him with funerals and got to know the people and the area, so it was a nice fit for us to take over when he was ready to retire.”
New ownership will not mean many changes except for a few more options for customers.
“The only thing that’s going to change is we’re not going to be there 24/7 as Paul was,” Ramaekers said. “They’re going to have to call, and we’ll be up there in a half-hour.”
Sharman added, “For anybody who has any pre-arrangements or pre-plans, nothing is going to change. All their pre-planning and finances are secure.”
“We have some different things to offer families that weren’t available before,” Ramaekers said.
They are remodeling the chapel in Humphrey and will meet with families there. “We’re there to serve them and meet their needs,” Ramaekers said.
Ron Denkinger and Denis Torczon also will continue to help with funerals.
