NFDA has been working hard to keep the profession informed during the COVID-19 crisis. Below you will find some newsworthy information and helpful links:
- At NFDA’s urging, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued guidance designating mortuary workers as critical infrastructure workers, which gives them priority access to personal protective equipment (PPE) and exempts them from “lock down” and “shelter in place” orders.
- Because many funeral professionals had questions about the DHS guidance, we put together an FAQ responding to the questions we were receiving.
- Because the DHS designation of funeral professionals as critical infrastructure workers was guidance, we brought together a coalition of funeral organizations to send a letter to President Donald Trump asking that he issue an executive order turning guidance issued by the Department of Homeland Security naming funeral professionals as critical infrastructure workers into a mandate. The coalition also send a similar letter to leaders in Congress asking them to take legislative action on this issue.
